*విశ్వం యొక్క భౌతిక ఉనికికి మాయ కూడా కారణమని గుర్తుంచుకోవాలి. ఇది కారణం మరియు ప్రభావం యొక్క సిద్ధాంతాన్ని ప్రతిబింబిస్తుంది. కర్మ మలం యొక్క ప్రభావం ఎక్కువగా జన్మతః అజ్ఞానం యొక్క స్థాయిపై ఆధారపడి ఉంటుంది. పుట్టుకతో వచ్చిన అజ్ఞానం యొక్క స్థాయి మళ్లీ ఒకరి కర్మ ఖాతాపై ఆధారపడి ఉంటుంది. ఆత్మ విముక్తి మార్గాన్ని అనుసరించాలని నిర్ణయించు కున్నప్పుడు, ఒకరు చేసే తన ప్రతి పరివర్తన క్రమంగా విముక్తి మార్గంలో ముందుకు తీసుకు వెళుతుంది.*

*మాయ మలం పరిమితికి కారణం. సర్వవ్యాపి అయిన బ్రహ్మాన్ని గుర్తించకపోవడానికి పరిమితే కారణం. బ్రాహ్మం అపరిమితమైనప్పటికీ, మాయ మలం యొక్క ప్రభావం కారణంగా, ఒకరి చైతన్యం మాయచే బంధించబడి, బ్రాహ్మము పరిమితమైనదిగా కనిపిస్తుంది. వాస్తవం ఏమిటంటే కనిపించే ప్రతి రూపమూ బ్రహ్మ స్వరూపమే తప్ప మరొకటి కాదు. కానీ, మాయ ప్రభావం కారణంగా, బ్రహ్మం యొక్క స్వరూపాన్ని వివిధ ఆకారాలు మరియు రూపాలుగా వేరు చేయవలసి వస్తుంది. ఇదే మాయ మలము.*

*It is to be remembered that māyā is also responsible for materialistic existence of the universe, replicating the theory of cause and effect. The effect of Kārma mala largely depends upon the level of inborn ignorance. The level of inborn ignorance again depends upon one’s karmic account. When the soul decides to pursue the path of liberation, it moves forward to liberation gradually in its every transmigratory existence.*

*Māyīya mala is the cause for limitation. Limitation is the reason for not realising the Brahman who is omnipresent. Though the Brahman is limitless, due to the influence of māyīya mala, one’s consciousness is bound by māyā, making the Brahman appear as the limited One. The reality is that the every form that is seen is nothing but the form of the Brahman. But, due to the influence of māyā, one is compelled to differentiate the form of the Brahman as different shapes and forms. This is māyīya mala.*

*స్వచ్ఛమైన చైతన్యంలో మాత్రమే బ్రహ్మం సాక్షాత్కరింప బడుతుంది. బంధమే స్వచ్ఛమైన చైతన్యం యొక్క బాధకు కారణం. ఈ సూత్రం బంధానికి గల కారణాలను విశ్లేషిస్తుంది. మునుపటి సూత్రంలో, మలమే (సహజ మలినాలు) బానిసత్వానికి కారణమని చర్చించారు. స్పంద కారికా (I.9) సహజమైన అశుద్ధం లేదా మాలాను ఇలా వివరిస్తుంది, “అనుభావిక వ్యక్తి యొక్క మానసిక స్థితి అతని స్వంత అపరిశుభ్రత వల్ల కర్మలకు (వర్గః) అనుబంధాన్ని కలిగిస్తుంది. ఇది తొలగిపోయినపుడు, అత్యున్నత స్థితి కనిపిస్తుంది. అంటే, అజ్ఞానం తొలగిపోయినప్పుడు, బ్రహ్మం సాక్షాత్కరిస్తుంది. మలాలు మళ్లీ రెండు రకాలుగా విభజించబడ్డాయి.*

*🌴The multitude of similar origins is the body of parts of the whole.🌴*

*Brahman can be realised only in pure consciousness and bondage is the cause for the affliction of pure consciousness. This sūtrā proceeds to analyse the reasons for bondage. In the previous sūtrā, it was discussed that mala (natural impurities) is the cause for bondage. Spanda Kārikā (I.9) explains natural impurity or mala thus, “The afflicted mental state of an empirical individual is disabled by his own impurity causing attachment to actions (vargaḥ). When this disappears, then the highest state appears.” This means, when ignorance is removed, the Brahman is realised. The mala is again divided into two types.*

*The first one is kārma mala (karmā is different from kārma) and the second one is māyīya mala. Kārma mala refers to both mental and physical actions. It is essentially a desire, responsible for infinite association of the self with other creations of māyā (attachment to relationships and materialistic needs). If one is not associated with māyīya mala then it means that he is not a mundane existence, but a super human existence or a jñānī. It is only the māyā that is solely responsible for ignorance and consequent bondage. It is only the māyā that causes roadblocks in the spiritual path.*

*యోని అనేది దైవిక సంతానోత్పత్తి శక్తికి విలక్షణమైన చిహ్నం (లలితా సహస్రనామం నామం 895 'యోని నిలయా'). బ్రహ్మ సూత్రం (I.iv.27) కూడా 'యోని కా హి గీయతే' అని చెబుతుంది. కావున దివ్య సంతాన శక్తికి మూలం బ్రహ్మం. ముండక ఉపనిషత్తు (III.i.3) 'బ్రహ్మ యోనిమ్' అని చెప్పడం ద్వారా పై ప్రకటనలను ధృవీకరిస్తుంది. సూత్రం 2లో చర్చించినట్లుగా ఈ సృష్టించే శక్తి మాయ. వర్గ అంటే మనస్సు యొక్క ఐదు ప్రాథమిక అంశాల యొక్క విభిన్న తత్త్వాలు.*

*ఈ తత్వాల ఫలితమే మాయ. మాయే ఈ భౌతిక విషయప్రపంచానికి మూలం . మొదటి సూత్రం చైతన్యం యొక్క స్వచ్ఛత యొక్క ప్రాముఖ్యతను నొక్కిచెప్పింది మరియు రెండవ సూత్రం జ్ఞానం యొక్క స్వచ్ఛత యొక్క ప్రాముఖ్యతను నొక్కి చెప్పింది. ఈ సూత్రం అజ్ఞానానికి మూలం గురించి చర్చిస్తుంది. కాలా అంటే ప్రక్రియ మరియు శరీరం అంటే దేహం. కాబట్టి, కాలశరీరం అంటే భౌతిక జీవితాన్ని నిర్వహించే ప్రక్రియ. భౌతిక జీవితమే బంధం మరియు ఈ బంధానికి మూలం మాయ లేదా భ్రాంతి.*

*Yoni is the typical symbol of divine procreative energy (Lalithā Sahasranāmam nāmā 895 ‘yoni nilayā’). Brahma sūtrā (I.iv.27) also says “yoni ca hi gīyathe”. Therefore, the source of the divine procreative energy is the Brahman. Mundaka Upanishad (III.i.3) confirms the above statements by saying “brahma yonim”. This procreative energy is māyā as discussed in sūtrā 2. Vargaḥ means the tattvās, known as the principles of creation, comprising of different modifications of five basic elements and products of mind.*

*Māyā is the outcome of tattvās which is the source for the materialistic world. First sūtrā stressed the importance of purity of consciousness and the second sūtrā emphasised the importance of purity of knowledge. This sūtrā discusses about the source of ignorance. Kalā means process and śarīram means body. Therefore, kalāśarīram means the process through which materialistic life is carried out. Materialistic life itself is bondage and the source for this bondage is māyā or illusion.*

*భౌతిక జ్ఞానం, ఆధ్యాత్మిక జ్ఞానం నుండి పూర్తిగా భిన్నంగా ఉంటుంది. భౌతిక సంబంధమైన జ్ఞానం ఎంతైనా ఆధ్యాత్మిక జ్ఞానానికి దోహదపడదు. ఆధ్యాత్మిక జ్ఞానాన్ని ఆలోచనా విధానం ద్వారా మాత్రమే కొనసాగించాలి. ఆధ్యాత్మిక అన్వేషణ కోసం కోరిక లోపల శోధనకు దారితీస్తుంది. ఆధ్యాత్మిక అన్వేషణలకు కావలసిన ప్రాథమిక అంశాలు ఉపనిషత్తుల ద్వారా అందించ బడ్డాయి. ఉపనిషత్తుల అధ్యయనం, మిగితా గ్రంథాల అధ్యయనం వేరు. ఉపనిషత్తులు కథనం కాదు. అవి స్ఫుటమైనవి మరియు చివరి బిందువు వరకు ఉంటాయి. వారు ధృవీకరణలు మరియు నిరాకరణల ద్వారా పాఠకులకు సహాయం చేస్తారు మరియు దైవిక ద్యోతకాన్ని సులభం మరియు సరళంగా చేస్తారు. విముక్తి ప్రక్రియను పాఠకులకు లోపలి అన్వేషణకు అందిస్తారు. సాక్షాత్కార మార్గాన్ని అనుసరించడానికి, స్వచ్ఛమైన జ్ఞానం కలిగి ఉండాలని ఈ సూత్రం చెబుతోంది.*

*మాలా బంధానికి కారణం అజ్ఞానము. ఈ అజ్ఞానం అనేది జన్మతః వచ్చే స్వాభావికమైన గుణం. ఆధ్యాత్మిక మార్గాన్ని అనుసరించడం ద్వారా మాత్రమే ఈ మాలా బంధం తొలగించ బడుతుంది. మత మార్గం వేరు. ఆధ్యాత్మిక మార్గం వేరు. ఆధ్యాత్మిక మార్గం బ్రహ్మమునకు ఎలాంటి రూపాలను సూచించదు. బ్రహ్మం స్వయంగా ప్రకాశించేది, లోపల నుండి ప్రకాశిస్తుంది. ఆధ్యాత్మిక జ్ఞానాన్ని పొందడానికి, లోపల శోధించడం మరియు విచారించడం తప్ప మరేమీ సహాయం చేయదు. మునుపటి సూత్రం స్వచ్ఛమైన చైతన్యమే బ్రహ్మమని చెప్పింది. సంసారంలో మునిగిపోయేలా చేసే బంధానికి సంపూర్ణమైన అజ్ఞానం కారణమని ఈ సూత్రం చెబుతోంది. సంసారాన్ని కుటుంబ జీవితంగా తప్పుగా అర్థం చేసుకోకూడదు. సంసార అంటే సహజ అస్తిత్వ పరివర్తనలు. అనేక స్థితుల పరంపర గుండా వెళ్లడం, ప్రాపంచిక ఉనికి గుండా వెళ్లడం... మొదలైనవి.*

*🌴Limited knowledge creates bondage.🌴*

*Materialistic knowledge is totally different from spiritualistic knowledge. Any amount of materialistic knowledge gained cannot contribute to the spiritual knowledge. Spiritual knowledge is to be pursued through thought process alone. Desire for spiritual quest leads to search within. The basic inputs for spiritual quests are provided by Upanishads. Study of Upanishads is different from the study of scriptures. Upanishads are not narrative. They are crisp and to the point. They help the readers by affirmations and negations and make the divine revelation easier and simpler, leaving the process of emancipation to the readers by way exploration within. To pursue the path of realisation, this sūtrā says that one should have pure knowledge.*

*Mala is the cause for bondage. Ajñānaṁ is inborn and inherent quality. This mala can be removed only by pursuing the path of spirituality. Religious path is different from spiritual path. Spiritual path does not advocate any forms for the Brahman. Brahman is Self-illuminating, shining from within. To attain spiritual knowledge, nothing will help except searching and enquiring within. The previous sūtrā said that pure consciousness is the Brahman. This sūtrā says that ignorance about the Absolute is the cause for bondage that makes one indulge in saṁsārā. Saṁsārā should not be misconstrued as family life. Saṃsārā means transmigratory existence, passing through succession of states, circuit of mundane existence etc.*

*జ్ఞానం అంటే విషయ పరిజ్ఞానం మరియు బంధం అంటే లౌకికపరమైన బంధం. ఇక్కడ జ్ఞానం అంటే ఇంద్రియ అవయవాల ద్వారా పొందిన జ్ఞానం, అనుభవం ద్వారా పొందిన జ్ఞానం. ఈ జ్ఞానం అత్యున్నత జ్ఞానానికి భిన్నమైనది. అత్యున్నత జ్ఞానం లౌకిక మనస్సు యొక్క అనుభవం మరియు ఇంద్రియ అనుభవం ద్వారా ఉద్భవించదు. ఉన్నత మనస్సు ద్వారా గ్రహించబడిన, పెంపొందించ బడిన మరియు వ్యక్తీకరించబడిన జ్ఞానం బంధం వంటి తాత్కాలిక విషయాలతో కలుషితం కాకుండా ఉంటుంది. ఇక్కడే మునుపటి సూత్రంలో ప్రస్తావించబడిన స్వచ్ఛమైన చైతన్యం పవిత్రం సూచించబడింది. ఇంద్రియ గ్రహణాల ద్వారా పొందిన జ్ఞానం మాయ లేదా భ్రాంతి ప్రభావం కారణంగా పరిమితం అని చెప్పబడింది.*

*ఇంద్రియ అనుభవం ద్వారా పొందిన జ్ఞానం ముక్తికి దారితీయదు. ఇంద్రియ అనుభవం ద్వారా పొందిన జ్ఞానం ద్వారా పరమాత్మను గ్రహించలేము, ఎందుకంటే పొందిన అనుభవం నిజమైనది కాదు. ఇది మాయ వల్ల కలిగే భ్రమ. దీనిని ఇంద్రియ జ్ఞానం లేదా ఆధ్యాత్మిక పరిభాషలో అజ్ఞానం అంటారు. శివ సూత్రాలలో అజ్ఞానాన్ని మాలా అంటారు. మాలా యొక్క సరైన వివరణ సహజ అశుద్ధత. ఇది సహజమైనది ఎందుకంటే, ఒక వ్యక్తి సహజమైన అశుద్ధతతో జన్మించాడు. అతని ఎదుగుదల ప్రక్రియలో, అతను అత్యున్నత జ్ఞానాన్ని పొందుతాడు. దీనిని అభిన్న జ్ఞానం అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు. లేదా ఎదుగుదల ప్రక్రియలో అజ్ఞానం అని కూడా పిలువబడే విభిన్న జ్ఞానం పొందుతాడు. ఇది సృష్టికర్త లేదా బ్రహ్మం గురించి అజ్ఞానం.*

*🌴Limited knowledge creates bondage.🌴*

*Jñānaṁ means knowledge and bandhaḥ means bondage. Knowledge here means the knowledge derived through sensory organs, the knowledge acquired through experience. This knowledge is different from supreme knowledge. Supreme knowledge is the experience of the mind and not derived through sensory experience. Knowledge conceived, nurtured and manifested by the mind remains uncontaminated with temporal matters such as bondage. This is where pure consciousness is consecrated that is referred in the previous sūtrā. Hence knowledge acquired through sensory perceptions are said to be limited because of the influence of māyā or illusion.*

*Knowledge acquired through sensory experience does not lead to liberation. The Supreme Self cannot be realised through the knowledge acquired through sensory experience, as the experience gained is not real. It is illusionary in nature caused by māyā. This is known as a-jñānaṁ or ignorance in spiritual parlance. Shiva Sūtrās call ajñānaṁ as mala. The correct interpretation of mala would be natural impurity. It is natural because, a person is born with natural impurity. In the process of his growth, either he gains supreme knowledge which is also called undifferentiated knowledge or differentiated knowledge which is also known as ignorance. It is ignorance about the Creator or the Brahman.*

*విజ్ఞాన భైరవ (100వ శ్లోకం) ఇలా చెబుతోంది, “చైతన్యంగా వర్ణించబడిన బ్రాహ్మణుడు అన్ని జీవులలో ఉన్నాడు. ఇది వ్యక్తిని బట్టి మారదు. బ్రహ్మం సర్వత్రా ప్రబలంగా ఉంటుందని గ్రహించినవాడు ప్రపంచాన్ని జయిస్తాడు. ఇదే విషయాన్ని కృష్ణుడు భగవద్గీత (IV.13)లో ప్రకటించాడు. 'గుణాలు మరియు చర్యల యొక్క భేదం ప్రకారం, నేను నాలుగు కులాలను సృష్టించాను' అని అతను చెప్పాడు. సత్యాన్ని అర్థం చేసుకోవడానికి, గ్రహించడానికి ఒక నిర్దిష్ట మానసిక ప్రక్రియ ద్వారా వెళ్ళాలి. మానసిక ప్రక్రియ మూడు భాగాలను కలిగి ఉంటుంది. మొదటిది నేర్చుకోవడం మరియు రెండవది విశ్లేషించడం మరియు మూడవది అనుభవించడం.*

*🌴 Supreme consciousness is the reality of everything.🌴*

*Vijnana Bhairava (verse 100) says, “The Brahman who is characterised as Consciousness is present in all beings. It does not vary from person to person. The one who realises that the Brahman prevails everywhere conquers the world.” The same discourse is declared by Krishna in Bhagavad Gita (IV.13). He says “According to the differentiation of attributes and actions, I have created four castes.” For understanding and realising the Truth one has to go through certain mental process. Mental process consists of three components. The first one is learning and the second one is analysing and the third one is experiencing.*

*Shiva is omnipresent and He prevails both internally and externally is the crux of learning. Study of Upanishads and other scriptures that make elaborate discussions on the Brahman, by means of negations and affirmations is analysing. Experiencing means developing higher level of consciousness and the experience culminates in Shiva realisation. Meditation is a source of help only in the last stage. Without understanding the subject, meditation is a process of wasting one’s time. It is like writing an examination without the basic knowledge of the concerned subject.*

*వ్యక్తులందరికీ వివిధ స్థాయిల స్పృహ ఉంటుంది. అత్యున్నత స్థాయి స్పృహను పొందిన వాడు జ్ఞానంతో నిండి ఉంటాడు. అయితే అది విజ్ఞానం అతనికి ప్రసాదించినది కాదు. అతను తన స్వంత ప్రయత్నాల ద్వారా ఈ జ్ఞానాన్ని పొందాడు, అంటే ఆధ్యాత్మిక గురువు నుండి నేర్చుకోవడం, అతనిని అభ్యసించడం మొదలైనవి. జ్ఞానాన్ని సంపాదించడానికి అనేక పద్ధతులు ఉన్నాయి, అయితే గురువు నుండి పొందడం సరైనదిగా పరిగణించ బడుతుంది. జ్ఞానాన్వేషకుల మదిలో తలెత్తే పనికిమాలిన సందేహాలకు సమాధానం చెప్పగలిగిన వారు ఎవరైనా ఉండాలి. ఒకరికి సందేహం రాకపోతే, అతను తన అభ్యాస ప్రక్రియలో తీవ్రంగా లేడని అర్థం.*

*ప్రబలంగా ఉన్న అజ్ఞానం యొక్క స్థాయి కారణంగా స్పృహ స్థాయి వ్యక్తి నుండి వ్యక్తికి మారుతూ ఉంటుంది. జ్ఞాన సముపార్జన ద్వారానే ఈ అజ్ఞానం తొలగిపోతుంది. ప్రస్తుత సందర్భంలో, జ్ఞానం లేదా అజ్ఞానం అంటే ఆధ్యాత్మికత స్థాయి మాత్రమే. కాబట్టి, ముఖ్యమైనది సాధన యొక్క వ్యవధి కాదు, కానీ అభ్యాసం యొక్క నాణ్యత. కొన్ని క్షణాల అధిక ఏకాగ్రత శివుడిని సాధించడానికి సరిపోతుంది. అన్ని అభ్యాసాలు ఆ కొన్ని క్షణములకు మాత్రమే దారి తీస్తాయి, ఇది ఒకరి ఆధ్యాత్మిక ప్రయాణంలో ఏ క్షణంలోనైనా జరగవచ్చు.*

*🌴 Supreme consciousness is the reality of everything.🌴*

*All the individuals have different levels of consciousness. The one who has acquired the highest level of consciousness is full of knowledge. Knowledge is not something that is gifted to him. He has acquired this knowledge through his own efforts, learning from a spiritual preceptor, or by reading him, etc. There are many methods of acquiring knowledge, though acquiring from a learned guru is considered as the right one. There should be someone who is able to answer trivial doubts that arise in the minds of the seekers of knowledge. If one does not get a doubt, then it means he is not serious in his learning process.*

*The level of consciousness varies from person to person due to the level of ignorance that prevails. This ignorance can be removed only by acquiring knowledge. In the present context, knowledge or ignorance means only the level of spirituality. So, what is important is not the duration of the practice, but the quality of the practice. A few seconds of high concentration is more than enough to attain Shiva. All the practice leads only to those few seconds, which could happen any moment in one’s spiritual journey.*

*చైతన్యం + ఆత్మ. చైతన్యం (లలిత సహస్రనామ 919) అనేది చేతన (లలిత సహస్రనామ 417) అనే పదం నుండి ఉద్భవించింది. చైతన్యం అంటే స్వచ్ఛమైన స్పృహ. చైతన్యం (చైతన్యం) చేతన (చేతన) నుండి ఉద్భవించింది. జ్ఞానం యొక్క అత్యున్నత రూపం స్వచ్ఛమైన చైతన్యం, దీనిని ఆత్మ లేదా స్వయం లేదా బ్రహ్మం అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు. చైతన్యము, జ్ఞానము మరియు బ్రహ్మము ఒకదానికొకటి భిన్నమైనవి కావు. అవన్నీ ఒకేలాంటివి. అయితే, స్పృహ స్థాయి భిన్నంగా ఉంటుంది.

అత్యున్నత స్థాయి స్పృహ అంటే మొత్తం ఆలోచనల స్వేచ్ఛ, శివుడిలో మాత్రమే ఉండే స్థాయి. అంటే శివుడు ఒక్కడే పూర్తిగా స్వతంత్రుడు. శివుడు తప్ప, ఈ విశ్వంలోని ప్రతి వస్తువు పరస్పరం ఆధారపడి ఉంటుంది. సృష్టి యొక్క ముఖ్యమైన అంశాలలో పరస్పర ఆధారపడటం ఒకటి. శివుని స్వతంత్ర స్వభావాన్ని స్వాతంత్య్ర శక్తి అంటారు . (శక్తి అంటే బలము). ఇది శివుని యొక్క ప్రత్యేక లక్షణం కనుక దీనిని శక్తి అంటారు. శివుడు (బ్రాహ్మణుడు) స్పృహ యొక్క స్వచ్ఛమైన రూపంగా సూచించబడినప్పుడు, దాని అర్థం అతని స్వాతంత్య్ర శక్తి. ఈ స్పృహ మాత్రమే ప్రతిచోటా ప్రబలంగా ఉంటుంది, అందుకే శివుడు సర్వవ్యాపి అని పిలువబడ్డాడు.*

*🌴 Supreme consciousness is the reality of everything.🌴*

*Caitanyam + ātmā. Caitanyam (Lalitha Sahasranamam nāmā 919) is derived from the word cetana (Lalitha Sahasranamam nāmā 417), which means sentient being. Caitanyam means purest form of consciousness. Consciousness (caitanyam) is derived from conscious (cetana). The highest form of knowledge is pure consciousness which is also known as Ātmā or the Self or the Brahman. Consciousness, knowledge and the Brahman are not different from each other. They are the same. However, the level of consciousness differs.

The highest level of consciousness means total freedom of thoughts, the level that prevails only in Shiva. This means that Shiva alone is completely independent. Except Shiva, every other thing on this universe is interdependent. Interdependency is one of the important aspects of creation. The independent nature of Shiva is called svātantrya śaktī (śaktī means power). It is called śaktī because it is the unique feature of Shiva. When Shiva (the Brahman) is referred to as the purest form of consciousness, it means His svātantrya śaktī. This consciousness alone prevails everywhere, hence Shiva is called omnipresent.*

🌻 INTRODUCTION 🌻

The Shiva Sutra was revealed to and written down by Vasugupta (ca875–925 CE). The Sutra is considered mystical and of divine origin. For Kashmir Saivism, it is one of the most important key sources. It outlines the teachings of Shaiva non-dualism, where the focus is on attaining the Ultimate Reality in which everything is created and dissolved. This ultimate state is called Param Shiva and is beyond description.

For attaining this state of Shiva for those who remember to reside in their own inherent-self-nature, which is of the nature of Shiva, no effort or no way (anpAy an-up¯aya) is needed. For everyone else there are three ways (up¯ayas) for the attainment of Param Shiva described in the Shiva Sutra. There is no strict order given for meditating on the Sutra. It depends on one’s stage of evolution.
